Stop whining about bus money
By Sandy Mann
It seems relatively simple: we should feel sorry for the bus riders, those poor babies who have to pay 54 dollars a month to get to school.
First, yes, I drive up the hill, but I don’t drive a shiny “Honda Accord” or “Mazda Miatia” (I don’t even want to attack the stereotype that was implied with this generalization, in any case, I find it somewhat offensive). Second, I don’t drive alone and I think that if you look closer, you’ll find that a vast majority of people don’t drive alone.
Those that do will oftentimes stop to pick someone up (why these people drive past you is a topic for a different letter…). Third, yes, every month your “shallow wallet” gets hit with a 54 dollar fee, mine gets hit with a 93 dollar fee, 60 dollars in gas per month, not to mention car insurance and maintenance. Fourth, yes, I do suppose that you are under the impression that many people support the “U Pass”. I would like to point out that these are the people who are at the bus stop, perhaps you should ask someone walking to or from B Lot.
If people at the bus stop think that us “rich car drivers” can afford an extra ten bucks to get your sorry butts up the hill, you’re sadly mistaken. If, however, I was forced to pay this extra fee, one of two things would happen: One, there better be ten bucks taken off the cost of my parking pass or two, I certainly would never consider picking anyone up from the bus stop again, since I’ve already paid for them to take the bus.
Just because your mummy’s and daddy’s don’t give you bus money anymore, doesn’t mean the students up here have to.
